Georgetown Main Street Program Through the Years

1982 – Georgetown is accepted into the Texas Main Street Program with four other Texas cities, Gainesville, Kingsville, McKinney and Marshall
1997 – Georgetown becomes the first downtown in Texas to win the Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA), the highest honor given by the National Trust Main Street Center
2003 – Georgetown resident Renee L. Hanson, the city’s first planning director and a key driver in Georgetown receiving its Texas Main Street designation, receives the Main Street Hero Award from the National Trust Main Street Center
2004 – Georgetown is designated a Preserve America Community
2007 – The Georgetown Main Street Program marks its 25th anniversary with “A Sterling Celebration”. Total reinvestment in downtown revitalization projects since 1982 tops $120 million.
2009 – Georgetown, along with Mount Vernon and Castroville, are awarded the inaugural First Lady’s Texas Treasures Award from First Lady of Texas Anita Perry.
