“Driving north of Austin on I-35, I always feel as if I’ve returned to the rest of Texas when I reach Georgetown.  Past the sprawl of the capital, though the rip-roaring growth of Round Rock (which looks as if it’s been eating its famous doughnuts), I take a deep, if brief, breath of open prairie and wide sky. Then I duck under the shade of Austin Avenue and its vintage homes and emerge onto one of the prettiest squares in Texas.”

–Gary D. Ford, Senior Writer Southern Living, November 2005

Welcome to the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas! Georgetown has worked diligently as a Texas Main Street City since 1982 to restore, rehabilitate and revitalize its charming downtown square.

As a result, Georgetown was the first city in Texas to be awarded the Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA) in 1997, the highest honor bestowed by the National Trust Main Street Center . Today, three National Register Historic Districts host more than 180 historic buildings and homes, and the Town Square Historic District is a singular point of Lone Star State pride, boasting the finest collection of late Victorian commercial architecture in the state.
