City of Georgetown Downtown Master Plan Update

The City of Georgetown is in the process of updating the 2003 Downtown Master Plan. The Plan Update process will begin with a Public Workshop in August and continue throughout the remainder of 2013. The Downtown Master Plan process is a collaborative process between city staff and community stakeholders, creating a shared vision for the Downtown. Numerous achievements have occurred in the past 10 years and great strides have been made in response to recommendations from the 2003 Plan to make Downtown a more vibrant place. The City continues to grow and it is crucial that the Downtown District remain the economic, social and cultural center of the city. ThunderCloud Subs opens at 816 South Main StreetThuderCloud-closing-b640

ThunderCloud Subs, an Austin, TX based business, opened their first Georgetown location on June 17th. Their new home is the rehabilitated fire station bays, located at 814 South Main St. The rehabilitation project included new interior design, new canopies and expanded city sidewalks for outdoor seating.  Drop by for a sandwich next time you’re in downtown.

Austin Avenue Sidewalk Expansion Project

The City of Georgetown recently completed the Austin Avenue Streetscape Project, continuing ongoing efforts to create a more pedestrian friendly downtown. The expanded brick sidewalks include new planters and provide room for sidewalk dining and plenty of pedestrian access to businesses along Austin Avenue. We wish to extend our thanks to the business and property owners along Austin Avenue for their patience while the City continued to enhance The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas.


Dimmitt Building Renovation – 719 S. Main Street

With assistance from the Texas Historical Commission and City staff, Downtown’s Dimmitt Building will soon be getting some much needed maintenance. Plans, recently approved by the Historic and Architectural Review Commission, call for the removal of an aged, weathered awning along Main and 8th Streets and for a more traditional flat canopy and metal tie rods to be installed in its place that will match the historic canopy once seen on the building. Covered transoms will be opened up and maintenance to windows and trim will be completed. Future plans call for further renovations to the second floor, allowing for upper-story office. Hill Country Book Store, soon to be Square Books, occupies the first floor and has led the way for this project.
