Volunteer Opportunities

 

The Main Street Advisory Board in Georgetown is the driving force behind preservation and improvements to the downtown area. Volunteers are always needed and welcome and can serve in several ways:

Volunteer as a member of one of four Main Street Advisory committees (Organization, Promotion, Design or Economic Restructuring – minimum one year commitment). Committee member tasks:

  • Work three (3) to five (5) hours per month on annual committee action projects
  • Attend all training sessions
  • Read selected orientation materials
  • Learn the Main Street Four-Point Approach
  • Recruit/orient new members
  • Prepare in advance for committee meetings
  • Cooperatively help draft an annual board action plan
  • Take responsibility for committee projects, and
  • Always represent the program positively to the public

Some volunteers also seek appointment by the City Council to the Main Street Advisory Board (minimum 2 year commitment).  Board member obligations:

  • Work four (4) to ten (10) hours per month on two (2) Main Street committees to help accomplish annual board action plan projects
  • Cooperatively draft an annual action plan
  • Take responsibility for action plan goals and projects
  • Prepare in advance for monthly board meetings
  • Attend all training sessions
  • Read selected board training/orientation materials
  • Learn the Main Street Four-Point Approach
  • Recruit/orient new board members, and
  • Always represent the program positively to the public

Volunteers can also help with annual fundraisers, special events downtown, and office and administrative assistance.
